These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of our website and our digital products. By using this site, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree with any part of these Terms, please do not use our website.
About Us
Thistle Type is a digital type foundry based in Scotland. We design and distribute fonts through our online store powered by WooCommerce, a WordPress-based e-commerce platform.
License Use & Restrictions
When you purchase a font from Thistle Type, you are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the font in accordance with the terms outlined in the applicable End User License Agreement (EULA).
You may not:
- Resell, redistribute, or share the font files.
- Upload the fonts to font-serving, conversion, or recognition platforms.
- Use the fonts in machine learning, AI training, or generative systems.
- Use the fonts in unlawful, hateful, discriminatory, deceptive, or unethical content.
- Violate any applicable copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property laws.
Unauthorised use may result in immediate license termination and legal action. Thistle Type reserves the right to revoke any license that breaches these terms.
Use of Fonts with AI Technologies
Our fonts are original, handcrafted designs. To protect their integrity and the creative rights of our designers, we strictly prohibit the use of Thistle Type fonts in association with artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, or generative tools.
You are strictly forbidden from:
- Uploading the fonts or any glyphs to AI training platforms.
- Using the fonts to prompt, enhance, or generate AI outputs.
- Allowing AI systems to analyse, imitate, or replicate the font’s style or structure.
Such use is a material breach of your license and will result in immediate termination.
Modifications to Products or Services
We may modify, update, or discontinue our fonts or services at any time without prior notice. This includes updates to font files, license terms, or removal of certain products.
Payments & Pricing
While our default currency is GBP, we use WooCommerce’s multi-currency feature to display prices in your local currency where available. The final amount charged will reflect the displayed currency at checkout.
VAT and Taxes:
- As a VAT-registered business in the UK and under the EU OSS scheme, VAT on digital goods is applied based on your location.
- UK customers are charged UK VAT in accordance with UK law.
- EU customers are charged VAT based on their country of residence under the OSS scheme.
- VAT is automatically calculated and included in the final price at checkout.
- Customers outside the UK and EU may be responsible for additional local taxes or fees.
Invoices & Receipts:
- Upon purchase, you will receive a digital invoice including any VAT applied.
- These invoices are provided automatically via email and can also be accessed through your account dashboard.
Prices and payment methods are subject to change at any time without notice.
Discounts & Promotions
Occasionally, we offer promotional discounts. These are applied automatically at checkout and cannot be combined unless explicitly stated. We reserve the right to change or withdraw any promotion at any time.
Delivery of Digital Products
All fonts sold by Thistle Type are digital downloads only. No physical products will be shipped.
After successful payment:
- You will receive a download link on the order confirmation page and by email.
- If you create an account or log in, you can also access your downloads from your account dashboard.
We recommend backing up your files after download. If you lose access, contact us at support@thistletype.com with your order number, and we’ll assist with re-delivery.
Refunds for Digital Products
Due to the nature of digital goods, all sales are final and we do not offer refunds or exchanges once a file has been downloaded. If you experience a technical issue with your download or believe you’ve received the wrong file, please contact us at support@thistletype.com and we’ll assist. In exceptional circumstances, we may issue a replacement or refund. Any refunds issued will include VAT adjustments in accordance with UK and EU tax laws and OSS regulations.

By subscribing to our newsletter, you consent to receive occasional emails about font releases, offers, and updates. You may unsubscribe at any time by clicking the link in any email. Please refer to our Privacy Policy for more information on how your data is handled.
Third-Party Services
Our website is built using WordPress and WooCommerce, with additional third-party tools. While we select our providers carefully, we are not responsible for their availability, performance, or security. Your use of those services is governed by their own terms and privacy policies.
Minimum Age Requirement
You must be at least 16 years old to use this site and make purchases, or have the consent of a parent or legal guardian where required by law.
Force Majeure
We are not liable for any failure or delay in fulfilling our obligations caused by events beyond our reasonable control. This includes, but is not limited to: natural disasters, war, internet outages, supplier failures, or new government regulations.
Tax Authority Cooperation
We may disclose order and VAT information to UK or EU tax authorities if required to comply with our legal obligations under VAT law and the OSS scheme.
Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy, and any relevant Font License Agreements, form the entire agreement between you and Thistle Type. They supersede any prior agreements or communications.
Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the website or our products if you violate these Terms or engage in misuse of our content or services.
Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Scotland and the applicable laws of the United Kingdom. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Scottish courts.
